Betty Joyce
July 28th, 1932 – January 10th, 2015
Resident of Danville
Betty Lou Joyce was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan 82 years ago. Last week she joined God in heaven, with her husband Bob and so many others waiting to greet her! She will be missed by her son Chris and wife Heather; daughter Laura Grinstead and husband Tom; 6 grandchildren Lindsey and husband Ryan; Julianne and husband Daniel; Brandon, Tanner, and two baby great granddaughters Maebrielle and Brynlee.
Betty was a wonderful wife, mom, daughter, friend, grandma and great grandma. Her life was full and vibrant, and she will be remembered for her electric smile, spicy personality, huge warm heart, and love for others. God was first in her life, followed closely by her precious family. Professionally, her 35 year career as a teacher helped her impact and change the lives of thousands of students. Many still remember her firm, yet caring manner of instruction and daily guidance.
Betty’s passion for leadership weaved through every role in her life: President of the teachers union; elder and deacon at church; President of the softball league; Cheerleader Mom; Band Mom; Swim Team President; head of countless social committees; and active and vocal leader in school boards, town councils and local politics. She was most happy organizing, educating, and coordinating activities and parties that brought people together.
Betty and her husband Bob retired together in 1992 and moved to Sun Lakes County Club in Banning, California where she continued to enjoy travel, drama, tap dancing, community politics, and church activities. She moved to Danville 11 years ago where she enjoyed numerous opportunities at Community Presbyterian Church including Prime Time, Grief Share, Alpha, ushering and bible study. She loved volunteering at the San Ramon Valley Railroad Museum, Republican Women’s Club, and living with and loving her sweet friends who became family at Willow Commons Senior Apartments in Danville. Most of all – she dedicated her sunset years to being the best mom and grandma she could be, focusing on loving her family fully and completely.
