Virginia Laurie Joyce

July 20, 1943 – February 28, 2014

Resident of Concord

Virginia Laurie Joyce passed away on February 28, 2014. She was with those who dearly loved her. Virginia is survived by the love of her life, William T. Joyce, her devoted daughter, Cynthia L. Childers, two brothers, one sister, two stepchildren, two granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews. Virginia’s greatest joy was her family and friends.

Virginia was born in Hayward and graduated from San Ramon Valley High School and Cal State University Hayward. Her desire to help others led her to a long and fulfulling career with the Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department. With her husband, Bill, Virginia enjoyed world traveling, often by cruise ship. On land or on deck, Virginia was an avid reader and always hada book on her Kindle near at hand.

Virginia’s personal integrity, generosity, kindness, and unfaltering compassion for others were ever present in both her peronal life, and her career. Her inner strength and personal courage empowered the lives of those around her.

Virginia taught us the true meaning of being our authentic selves. Her enthusiasm for life, her positive outlook, and her wonderful sense of humor brightened up her every venue and enriched our lives. Virginia will truly be missed.

Our thanks and appreciation to all those who prayed for and gave our family love and support through this time. At Virginia’s request there will be no services. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to juvenile diabetes or cancer research.
