Shirley Graham Joyce of West Chester.    Shirley Graham Joyce, age 79, of West Chester, Pa. and Naples, Fla., succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease Monday, July 16, 2012. She was surrounded by family in the home that she and her husband built upon their marriage in 1957. Born October 24, 1932 in Camp Hill, Pa., she was the daughter of Thelma G. Tippett and William H. Graham. She was the fourth child of six raised in the Church of God. She was a gentle and kind person who possessed a strong conviction for family and church throughout her life, and she always brightened a room with her warm smile and sparkling green eyes.

She married Robert T. Joyce of Wilmington, Del. and spent 25 years as the wife of an Air Force officer. She moved often and was always involved with church and community. She also rose to the occasion as single mother with aplomb in times of her husband’s remote tours, and came to love travel. After years as a dedicated homemaker, she worked from 1977 to 1987 as the secretary to the Director at Crosslands Life Care Community, where she was beloved by the staff and residents alike. Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, gardening, tennis, travel, knitting, and needlepoint. Above all, her favorite pastime was spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 55 years, she is survived by a son, Robert Joyce, Jr. and his wife Kristen of Beverly Hills, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Cooley and her husband John, of Chadds Ford, Pa.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Road, Greenville, DE 19807. A reception will follow the service from 3 to 5 p.m. Contributions to Shirley’s memory may be made to the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church at the aforementioned address. Arrangements are being handled by the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home Inc. (610-444-4116) of Kennett Square, PA.
