Roger Neal Joyce 1962 – 2012

EL DORADO – Joyce, Roger Neal, 49, local Optometrist, died Thursday, July 26. Services will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 30 at First United Methodist Church, El Dorado. He was born on December 17, 1962 in El Dorado, the son of J. Dallas and Dotty (Harper) Joyce. He graduated from El Dorado High School, Butler Community College; and received his Doctorate in Optometry from Houston College. Roger was a member of Rotary International; New Life Equipping Ministry Church; Kansas Optometric Association, currently serving as President-elect, and had served as Secretary and Treasurer; Wichita Optometric Association; American Optometric Association; Kansas Optometric Foundation where he is the current President; an active community volunteer; was a Vision 2020 Classroom Mentor; member of Partners in Education Foundation; an avid cyclist and tennis player and many other activities including woodworking and photography.

On August 1, 1987 he married Lucille Madden in a ceremony in Leavenworth, Kansas. Those who survive including his wife of the home are his children Thomas Joyce (fiancee Lauren Prust) and Kayla Joyce both El Dorado; Luci Zieman, Worchester, MA; his mother Dotty Joyce, El Dorado and brothers Greg Joyce and wife Helen, also El Dorado; and Eric Joyce, Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his father Dallas, sister Jody; and grandparents. Memorials to his memory for St. Jude’s Children Hospital may be left with Carlson Funeral Home where friends may call.
