MR. MICHAEL JOYCE

The death occurred on Monday morning at the Benalla Bush Nursing Hospiltal of Mr. Michael Joyce, at theage of 73 years. Deceased was a son of the late Robert and Bridget Joyce,of Winton, where he was born.

He has resided in the district all hie life.He was married at Berrigan (N.S.W.) 50 years ago to Miss Sarah Elizabeth  O’Bryan, who survives him, ,together with a family of 12, six other members of the family having predeceased him.  Members of his family are: Maud (deceased), Thomas (Lockington), Robt.(Yarrawalla), Bridget (Mrs. A. Warnock, Tallarook), Andrew (Benalla), William (Wodonga), Alfred (Mit cham), Elsie (Mrs. Seeger, Yea), Lavina (Mrs. Blewitt, North Brighton), Lawrence (Benalla). Ernest (deceased), Kathleen (deceased), James(deceased), Charles (deceased), Isabel (Mrs. Oillitt, East Malvern), Dorothy (Mrs. Sands, west Footscray),  Albert (North Brighton) and Sarah (deceased).

The late Mr. Joyce was a member of the 2nd Pioneers, A.I.F., In -World War I, and served for 460 days overseas.During his long association with the district, he made a host of friends,who will regret his passing, he possessed many sterling qualities, and was a good neighbour and friend.The funeral, which was largely attended, left Holy Trinity Church on Tuesday, afternoon, following a service  by Canon R. C. H. Crigan, who also officiated at Winton cemetery. The casket, which was draped with the Union Jack, was borne by six of deceased’s sons, who are members of the R.S.L., viz., Thomas, Andrew,William, Max, Alf and Robert. Supporting the pall were six members of the Benalla R.S,L., Messrs. W. McPherson (president), H. Kenton (Seretary), J. Short, O. Hyland, V. Watts and C. Glazebrook. The soldiers’ service was read by Mr. W. Mcpherson. The funeral arrangements were in charge of Mr. I. A. Abbott.
