Mary Joyce 1918 – 2011

SPRINGFIELD – Mary Joyce, 92, of Springfield, passed away at 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Home.

Mary was born August 1, 1918 in Ashland, the daughter of Antonie and Hattie Dickinson Kieffer. She married Thomas Joyce on July 4, 1939 in Springfield; he preceded her in death on December 19, 1991.

Mary had attended Springfield High School and obtained her GED when she was 82 years old. She worked as an account clerk for Illinois National Insurance Company and was a technician for the Illinois Department of Financial and Safety Responsibility. Mary was very active within Church of the Little Flower. She was a woman of clarity, compassion, kindness and love that loved to travel.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Hubert and Leo Kieffer; and one sister, Mildred Maisenbacher.

She is survived by her sister, Mardell Taft of Rochester; sister-in-law, Teresa Joyce of Springfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., Springfield.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Church of the Little Flower, with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
