Margaret E. Joyce, age 88, passed away Friday, December 31, 2010 at Good Samaritan Village, Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Mrs. Joyce was born to Oscar L. and Ethel Amanda St. John on February 5, 1922, in Smithville, MO. She graduated from North Kansas City High School, and in 1944 graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO as a Registered Nurse. She married Bryan Arner Joyce, June 4, 1944 in Kansas City, MO.

Mrs. Joyce and her husband moved to Mtn. Home in 1946 for the construction of the Bull Shoals Dam, where she operated the first aid station. After the completion of the Dam, Mrs. Joyce worked at Saltzman’s Hospital in Mtn. Home until the opening of Baxter General Hospital, where she served as the first head nurse. Mrs. Joyce finished her nursing career as the first school nurse for Nelson-Wilks Elementary.

Mrs. Joyce traveled extensively including trips to Russia, Egypt, China, Australia, Peru, Ireland, England, Switzerland and Israel. She enjoyed playing Bridge and caring for her roses and azaleas.

Mrs. Joyce is survived by three daughters, Ann Nelson (Robert) of Mtn. Home, Susan McGinnis (Perry) of Greenfield, IN, and Mary Lynn Marsano (Jose) of Lima Peru; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Fisher (Independence, MO) and Martha Henneburg (Lampoc, California), and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, her loving husband, Bryan, and two grandbabies.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2011, 9:30 to 11:00 am at Roller Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following. Interment will be at Baxter Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to The Good Samaritan Society, Hospice of the Ozarks, or First Baptist Church of Mtn. Home.
