Kevin Francis Xavier Joyce 1952 – 2011

KEVIN FRANCIS XAVIER JOYCE died suddenly in Galway, Ireland on July 31st. He was fifty-nine. Joyce, a native Clevelander, graduated from St. Edward High School in 1970, and later earned a B.A. in philosophy with honors from Baldwin Wallace College. He left Cleveland for Seattle in 1978, where he became a master craftsman and general contractor. He had a lifelong interest in the Irish civil rights movement in Northern Ireland. In the 1980’s and 90’s he became actively involved with Sinn Fein and its efforts to find political solutions to the Troubles, culminating in the Good Friday Agreement of 1998. He had been living in Co. Mayo, Ireland since 2000 until the time of his death. Joyce is survived by three children: Scott Helyer (wife, Brandi) of Ashley, OH, Kerry Joyce (spouse, Aaron Galloway and granddaughter, Eva Joyce) of San Juan Island, WA, and Michaela Curtis-Joyce (spouse, Sam Lohmann) of Portland, OR, his sister, Sheila Montgomery, of Milwaukee, WI, and brother, Tim Joyce, of Cape Cod, MA. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 27th, at St. Coleman’s Catholic Church, 2027 West 65th St., Cleveland, at 10 a.m.
