Jeffrey A. Joyce

WARWICK- Jeffrey A. Joyce, 66, of 50 Athol Road, died on Tuesday morning, April 17, 2012 at home following a courageous battle with cancer, with Susanne at his side.
Born in Brighton on May 24, 1945, he was a son of Jerry and Grace (Burns) Joyce Sr. and grew up in Wayland where he attended Grammar and Junior High School.
His four years of high school were spent at St. Sebastian’s, graduating in 1963. While at St. Sebastian’s, he captained the baseball team in his senior year and was starting quarterback in football in his junior year, switching to half back in his senior year. Jeff played football and baseball all four years as well as served as a class officer.
Jeffrey graduated from the University of New Hampshire, where he played freshmen football and was starter on the varsity baseball team, as well as a member of the Theta Chi fraternity.
In June of 1967, Jeff became the first trainee in 44,000 trainees at Fort Bragg, NC to record a perfect score on both the individual Combat Proficiency Test and the individual Physical Proficiency Test in “Pro Park”, a test given to all trainees at the end of U. S. Army Basic Training. He was given a Commendation by the Army to honor this feat.
Jeff achieved what many of us strive to achieve in our lifetime- He was known as “a good and gentle man”, was loved by family and friends, and will be dearly missed
Jeff leaves behind his wife Susanne Gunnard of Warwick, his companion of nearly 36 years and his committed caregiver throughout his difficult illness. Her love, care, and support alleviated his pain and allowed him to remain in their longtime home. He also leaves his much loved step daughter, Jessie Gunnard and son in law, Brett Longworth of Falmouth; step daughter, Rachel Gunnard of Northampton; and his siblings, Judy Kenny of San Jose, CA, Jann Sulzen and her husband, David, of Wilmington, NC, Jerry Joyce Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Medesto, CA, and Jack Joyce and his wife, Sharon, of Marana, AZ.
There are no calling hours.
