JOYCE, James (Jim) November 12, 1971 – March 16, 2014 – If you had the pleasure of knowing Jim, Jimmy, JJ, you are forever blessed. Jim was larger than life, the kind of man who left a lasting impression, even if you only met him briefly. His warm and witty personality, those twinkling eyes and mischievous grin, left their mark on everyone who knew him. Jim was many things to many people – husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, colleague – and he was everything to a lucky few. He was a man of great strength, character and spirit. He was loyal, honourable and selfless. He had an enormous heart and was beyond generous with his time and talents, of which he had many. He was always joking and teasing, but always in a good-natured way, never hurtful. In fact, the more he teased you, the more he loved you. Jim worked a career that was not always easy or pleasant, but he excelled at it. He was the kind of man who would – and did – put his life on the line for his fellow man. On the job, he was fearless, firm but fair – a true leader and mentor. He earned the respect and admiration of his officer colleagues like few others. At home, he was a family man who adored his wife and sons and always made time for them in a job that didn’t make that easy. He shared his love of the outdoors with his boys, Riley and Logan, and he treasured the special times they had together. Jim found his soul mate in Deb. The love they shared was kind, pure and endless. He was her life, and she, his. It has been said that when you truly find love, you find yourself. Jim and Deb found themselves in each other. And for all of us who were privileged to know Jim Joyce, we, too, can say we have been found. Peacefully, in hospital after a brief illness, at 42 years of age on Sunday, March 16, 2014. Cherished by his loving wife Debbie, sons: Riley and Logan, parents Frank and Phyllis Joyce and in laws, Tony and Shirley Overvelde, sister Margie (Mo Roche), brothers Tom (Karen), Frank (Kimm) , brothers-in-law: Mike (Alison), Brian (Alana) and Tony (Janet) and adopted brothers Matt (Karen) Smith and Gord (Regan) McLeod. Dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews, relatives and his many good friends. Friends will be received at the GORDON F. TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOME , 435 Davis Drive (Centennial and Taylor-Kidd Blvd) on Wednesday, March 19th from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul the Apostle Church, 1111 Taylor Kidd Blvd. on Thursday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. For those wishing, donations to Almost Home would be appreicated by his family.12724427
